Q. What is it made of?
A. Corian® is built from a combination of PolyMethyl MethAcrylate acrylic resin and natural minerals such as Aluminium TriHydrate. This unique blend makes it remarkably durable, meaning it stands up to daily use and is resistant to most of the scrapes and knocks that can occur with heavy usage.
Q. How is it formed?
A. Corian® is thermoformable and can be created using moulds at controlled temperatures to create 2D and 3D shapes. Its unique malleability enables it to fit any space or shape, making it ideal for everything from bespoke work surfaces, to product and furniture design.
Q. Is it non-porous?
A. Yes, Corian® is completely solid all the way through. Because it’s non-porous it doesn’t support the growth of bacteria, making it extremely hygienic. Corian® has been certified as a hygienic material according to the international standard DIN EN ISO 846.
Q. Can it be repaired?
A. Yes. Because Corian® surfaces are renewable, they can be restored by treating them with abrasive cleaners or scouring. Any damage can usually be repaired on-site without having to replace any of the surface material.
Q. Can it de-laminate?
A. No. Because the textures and colours run right the way through a Corian® surface, it can’t be worn down and won’t lose its surface appearance.
Q. Is it environmentally-friendly?
A. Yes, Corian® is manufactured in strict compliance with energy consumption standards and its manufacturer, DuPont, has reduced its landfill waste to zero. Not only that, but its durability and lifespan makes Corian® a sustainable choice.
