The weird and wonderful world of Corian ® design

There’s no end to the possibilities when it comes to Corian ® design

Many people know Corian ® as a material used within domestic kitchens. But, there’s a whole array of applications for the material that extend way beyond kitchen countertops.

Because Corian ® is nonporous and hardwearing, it can be used outdoors and indoors and has a lifespan of at least ten years. Corian ® is available in hundreds of different colours and finishes, meaning it suits all sorts of schemes.

To show you what we mean, we’ve gathered some ideas from the world of Corian ® design. They show some of the imaginative and original things that can be achieved using the material.

1. Corian ® as wall cladding

In the same way that Corian ® is used for kitchen splashbacks, it can also clad entire walls or even rooms. This technique creates a watertight, durable seal and doesn’t require tiling or finishing. For bathrooms, this is hugely practical, like this stylish walk-in shower with textured Corian ® wall panels.

2. Bespoke bar areas

Within the hospitality industry, Corian ® is used to create bars and service stations, like the one above. Bars like this maximise every inch of the space available, while creating a smooth and streamlined exterior. They add something unique to venues that are also built to last.

6. Original artwork

It’s not just interior designers that turn to Corian ® for their installations – artists do too. This outdoor sculpture is titled ‘Thick Skin’ and is just one example of artwork made from Corian ®. The ability to cut, thermoform and seamlessly join makes it a versatile material for artists to experiment with.

7. Entire building structures

To think that the same material used for a kitchen worktop can be part of a train station’s roofing system is pretty amazing. This Zaha Hadid design for a station in Naples includes steel ribs clad with Corian ®. The finished results are visually stunning and extremely hardwearing.
